STORY

One cold winters day after a big storm the author Steve Ancliffe was walking across the beach at Praa Sands in Cornwall and noticed a tree on the beach. The tree had slid down the cliff during the storm and
looked out of place.
It didn't take long to get the imagination stirring and Steve wondered, wouldn't it be wonderful if the tree had been swept out to sea and had an adventure.
And so the book was born, developing into a fun story of friendship and hope.

I'm so happy that we are now on our second edition of the book, there's been a few improvements to make it more fun for children to read. Please make full use of the downloads where you can hear an audio version of the story and create your own story by printing off the animals and background pdfs.
I cannot thank the Cornish Seal Sanctuary enough, Sid the Seal has become a firm hero with visitors, please support their work either by visiting or online.

"The sea is a wonderful place and home to so much life, it also gives us life so it's important we make friends and get to know all the animals that live in and around it.
By making friends we gain respect for the oceans and will naturally look after them, it's especially important that children learn this early.
The sea can be a frightening place for some and also deadly,
by learning about the dangers we make it a welcoming place.
Swim, surf, dive, kayak or just walking along the beaches, the sea gives us health and benefits our mental wellbeing.
We are all a part of the ocean and the earth,
let's keep it clean and enjoy it together for future generations."

REVIEWS

The illustrations in the book are gorgeous, wonderfully bright and colourful, the story is easy to follow and I am sure it will be loved by lots of children. I personally love that the book is Cornwall based and that there is a map in the book to lead people to see the actual tree in real life. This means the book would make an excellent gift for a child headed to Cornwall on holiday and would give them a mini ‘quest’ to do once there too.

Lovely story, well written and the illustrations are very good, also informative regarding Cornwall.

I am a Teacher in an SEN school and ‘The Tree That Went To Sea’ captured the imagination of many of my students. One in particular requested to visit the tree in Praa Sands as part of his end of school year reward. On the walk across the beach the student retold the tale in detail including all the sea animals that helped it on its journey.

Fantastic and sweet story. Beautifully written and imaginatively illustrated.
